Belknap's Waterproof Grand Canyon River Guide

Loved the maps showing sights , rapids , camping along Colorado River. Lots of other info too. Mine got wet when rafting but held together well. Was so glad I had it on our motorized rafting trip.

There just isn't any other river guide map and book than the Belknap guide. The pages are truly waterproof and survived the many rapids soaking in fine condition. The maps are very helpful for navigation and exploration, allowing you to know if a small riffle is coming up or a class V Lava Falls type of rapids. They also point out other noteworthy river items and tell some great historical stories. Worth every penny. You will not regret the purchase. It will enhance your trip, on-river learning, and overall rafting experience.

Excellent resource for Colorado River rafting trip. Excellent content, including maps that detail the entire course of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Great illustrations of rock strata. Lots of history and other useful information. Start reading at least a few weeks before your trip. Be sure to get the new edition, which includes a spiral binder. If Amazon doesn't have it, check directly with the author, who is very responsive.

Recommended by a Grand Canyon river runner - Spoke to a river runner and she recommend this book. Water proof and easy to read. Looking forward using it as we float down the Grand Canyon this summer. Already using it to plan things I will be watching for.

The seller does a great job answering questions. I had bought this several months ago and finally got around to looking at it as my trip got closer. I noted that the book was used. As I hadn't recalled buying a used copy, I was a bit surprised. I couldn't sort out things in my Amazon order history, so I reached out to the seller. He promptly responded with info that it WAS listed as used. This helped a lot The book WAS exactely as listed in the original listing and the seller responded VERY quickly to answer my question. The book is also GREAT. Very detailed and will be super fun to have on the river while I raft "the big ditch!"

I was a river guide in the Grand Canyon when I was in my 20s. I am now in my 70s and writing a fiction story about people running the canyon. I needed the best river guide I could lay my hands on and I knew this guide was as good as it gets. I ordered it and was not disappointed. I was able to "re-run" the canyon in my mind with this guide as my crutch. Lots of info about the natural history, flora, fauna, etc. about the canyon. The description of the rapids are great too. I loved this guide and will review it whenever I'm homesick for the canyon and river!

Fabulous Book! Beautiful maps, arranged perfectly so you can follow every turn of the river as you head down. Scads of interesting facts and insights. I love it and can hardly wait for my rafting trip!

Excellent map of the River! We've used the Belknap waterproof guide maps for over 25 years. It tells you where you are and what is next, what kind of a drop to expect with a few clues to look out for, and gives you plenty of options for campsites indicated on the map. As far as someone mentioning a guide on how to scout a rapid or what to expect in a rapid, you'd better do your own research closer to your launch date or get off your raft and scout it out yourself. Flooding, weather, geolocical events etc, mean that the river is always changing, you can't 100% rely on a guide book for that information for any river. Any experienced boater would know and understand that. Ther are a lot of boater blogs out there where people can communicate how they run rapids in this ever changing river, use those, please, use those to prepare yourself for this Grand adventure. Good luck, be a safe boater and have fun. This map will help you navigate your way down the river, but it won't run the rapids for you. ...And really how many times will you get to run this river in your lifetime? It's totally worth it.

A Near Constant Companion on the River! Great reference. Detailed topo maps, geology, flora and fauna, human history, info on rapids - it's all there. Waterproof and very durable overall too, which is a major plus. Highly recommend. Enjoy!

This is THE book to get if you are making a Grand Canyon river expedition. Compact, waterproof, and chalk full of detailed information

The book is well written and fun to read with the photos, geology footnotes, and quotes by Wesley Powell. I started to read the book before the trip and reread it every night before the next day's rafting. The trip was a lot more interesting with the book although the guides were very informative.

If you're gonna raft on the Colorado River, gotta get this guide. Enjoy.

Exploring the Colorado River is an adventure Great guide

Compact, accurate, and it really is waterproof. This is a great guide book to have if you are going to be a passenger through Grand Canyon and want to follow along. I have used Belknap guide books to paddle other rivers and they are always informative and accurate. This was no exception and I was glad to have it with me as a passenger. However, if you are going to be a boatman (yes, boatman is gender neutral), you are going to want Tom Martin's large spiral-bound guide. Cuz apparently everything needs to be bigger in Grand Canyon.

This is a great book to read if you want some general knowledge about the Grand Canyon, and a must read if you are going to venture down the Colorado!

I recently went on a private 11 day rafting trip from Lee's Ferry to Pearce Ferry with this, and wow is it good. I debated about buying it, and finally did about a week before my trip. It ended up being the best purchase I made for the entire trip. Even though it's waterproof, I had originally planned to keep it dry. About an hour into day 1 I realized that's a ridiculous thing to try. This book was soaking wet (I actually had to "wring it out" a few times a day) from day 1 to day 11, and held up perfectly. Throughout the trip, this book was almost always in my hand or pocket. I quickly got the nickname "Scout", and became the main source of info regarding upcoming rapids, random history, plants, and animals. When I wasn't using this book, someone else on the raft was. Looking back, I should have bought two - one for me and one for everyone else :) If you are going on a trip through the Grand Canyon, I highly recommend taking this book. This book helped me appreciate the trip so much more, because I was able to learn about different things in the Canyon as I was there. You have to remember, once you're in the Grand Canyon, you only have the information that you bring with you - there is no wifi or phone service to look things up. Now that I am back home, I have this book (and the sand on it) to look back on and remember more about the trip than I could without it.
